It had gotten worse since Gwen had arrived, Tosh decided one evening as she headed home. Of course the others had flocked to her. After Suzie, she came in like a bright, vibrant spark of light.
Tosh couldn’t compete for the team’s affections against that. Her own particular brand of seriousness coupled with occasional bouts of wit were swamped.
And she’d lost Owen. She saw the way he watched her, how Gwen reacted to him being around her. Something had changed after that whole experience with the cannibals. Even Jack and Ianto seemed different. Ianto was understandable, after Lisa and the loss of her, he’d pretty much withdrawn into himself.
But Jack... since the faeries had killed Estelle and taken the child, he was more distracted.
Tosh had never been good at making friends. Her family were either all in London or back in Japan. She hadn’t even had a flat warming party when she moved to where she lived now, because a part of her didn’t want to admit to the rest of the Torchwood team that she was alone.
So desperately alone. She pulled herself together as she entered her flat, picking up the bill that was her one piece of post. She was okay with being alone. It suited her. She didn’t have to rely on anyone else.
Opening a bottle of wine and pouring herself a glass, she went to look in the fridge. No takeaway tonight, she’d finished in time to be able to make herself some food.
...and she caught sight of the photo of her and Owen that had been taken last year. When she had hope.
The fridge door was slammed shut. The clothes would do for going out. She wasn’t going to sit around waiting for something to happen that obviously never would. If she was going to be lonely, she would be in a group of people. There was a bar a few streets away that would do nicely.
